The USC chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta is a four-time winner of the Order of the Torch (Outstanding Chapter in the Nation)!
Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) is the Freshman Honor Society at
USC. ALD has over 250 chapters nationwide with more
than 425,000 inductees.
Every freshman who earns a GPA of 3.5 or better receives
an invitation to join the honor society. For $30, you are
given lifetime national and local membership.
Students who decide to join ALD have the honor of taking
part in an induction ceremony in February. The USC chapter
of ALD proudly inducts between 400-600 new members each
year.
Annually, ALD sponsors the USC Challenge, the academic
quiz bowl competition for South Carolina high school
students. The chapter also sponsors Organ Donor Awareness
Days, Clean Carolina, Carolina Outreach and other service
events.
In recognition of its efforts, the USC chapter was awarded the 1995-96, 1998-99, 2001-02, and 2005-06 Order of the Torch Award. This award is given annually to the nation’s most outstanding chapters. We are the only chapter in the country to have earned this distinction four times.
The National Headquarters of ALD offers twenty-three
$3,000-$7,500 fellowships for its members who plan to pursue
graduate and/or professional study (applications are due in
December). Thirty-five undergraduate scholarships in the
amount of $1,000 are available for active members
(applications are due in April). Active members from USC's
chapter have frequently received both undergraduate and
graduate scholarships. Applications must be submitted to
the Office of Student Orientation & Testing Services, 345
Russell House, Columbia, SC 29208.
