
COLLEGE BOARD ADVANCED PLACEMENT
PROGRAM (AP): The AP program gives high school students the
opportunity to take college level courses in their own
schools, be tested on achievements, and be awarded college
credit with a score of "3" or above on the examinations.
Listed below are the AP Examinations for which credit may be
awarded by the University of South Carolina. You should be
aware that some credit may not apply to your individual
program of study. Check with your academic advisor
concerning your college's policy.
AMERICAN GOVERNMENT & POLITICS: A score of 3 and above will
earn 3 semester hours for POLI 201.
AMERICAN HISTORY: A score of 3 will earn 3 semester hours
credit for HIST 111. A score of 4 or 5 will earn 6 semester
hours credit for HIST 111 & 112.
ART HISTORY: A score of 3 or above will earn 3 semester
hours of credit for ARTE 101.
ART STUDIO, DRAWING: A score of 3 will earn credit for ARTS 111.
ART STUDIO, 2-D: A score of 3 and above will earn 3 semester
hours credit for ARTS 103.
ART STUDIO, 3-D: A score of 3 and above will earn 3 semester
hours credit for ARTS 104.
BIOLOGY: A score of 3 will earn 4 semester hours of
credit for BIOL 101. A score of 4 or 5 will earn 8 semester
hours of credit for BIOL 101 and 102.
CHEMISTRY: A score of 3 will earn 4 semester hours credit
for CHEM 111. A score of 4 or 5 will earn 8 semester hours
of credit for CHEM 111 and 112.
COMPARATIVE GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS: A score of 3 and above
will earn 3 semester hours credit for POLI 103C.
COMPUTER SCIENCE - A: A score of 3 and above will earn 4
semester hours for CSCE 145.
COMPUTER SCIENCE - AB: A score of 3 or 4 will earn 4
semester hours for CSCE 145. A score of 5 will earn 8
semester hours credit for CSCE 145 & 146.
ECONOMICS - MICROECONOMICS: A score of 3 and above will earn 3
semester hours credit for ECON 222.
ECONOMICS - MACROECONOMICS: A score of 3 and above will earn 3
semester hours credit for ECON 221.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE & COMPOSITION or ENGLISH COMPOSITION &
LITERATURE: A score of 3 or 4 on either exam will earn 3
semester hours credit for ENGL 101. If a score of 3 or
better is received on both exams, 6 semester hours of credit
will be earned for ENGL 101 & 102. A score of 5 on either or
both exams will earn 6 semester hours of credit for ENGL 101
& 102.
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE: A score of 3 and above will earn 4
semester hours credit for BIOL 270 & 270L.
EUROPEAN HISTORY: A score of 3 will earn 3 semester hours
credit for HIST 101. A score of 4 or 5 will earn 6 semester
hours credit for HIST 101 & 102.
FRENCH LANGUAGE or FRENCH LITERATURE: A score of 3 on either
exam will earn 4 semester hours credit for FREN 121. If a
score of 3 or better is received on both exams, 7 semester
hours of credit will be earned for FREN 121 & 122. A score
of 4 or 5 on either or both exams will earn 7 semester hours
of credit for FREN 121 & 122. Students receiving a score of
1 or 2 must take the University of South Carolina placement
test.
GERMAN: A score of 3 will earn 4 semester hours credit for
GERM 121. A score of 4 or 5 will earn 7 semester hours
credit for GERM 121 & 122. Students receiving a score of 1
or 2 must take the University of South Carolina placement
test.
HUMAN GEOGRAPHY: A score of 3 and above will earn 3
semester hours for GEOG 210.
LATIN VERGIL or LATIN LITERATURE: A score of 3 on either
exam will earn 4 semester hours credit for LATN 121. If a
score of 3 or better is received on both exams, 7 semester
hours of credit will be earned for LATN 121 & 122. A score
of 4 or 5 on either or both exams will earn 7 semester hours
of credit for LATN 121 & 122. Students receiving a score of
1 or 2 must take the University of South Carolina placement
test.
MATHEMATICS - CALCULUS AB: A score of 3 or above will earn 4
semester hours of credit for MATH 141.
MATHEMATICS - CALCULUS BC: A score of 3 and above will earn
8 semester hours credit for MATH 141 & MATH 142. Students
who score a 1 or 2 but receive a 3 or above on the CALCULUS
AB SUBSCORE will earn 4 semester hours of credit for MATH
141.
MUSIC LISTENING & LITERATURE: A score of 3 will earn 3
semester hours credit for MUSC 110. A score of 4 or 5 will
earn 6 semester hours of credit for MUSC 110 & 145.
MUSIC THEORY: A score of 3 will earn 3 semester hours
credit for MUSC 115. A score of 4 will earn 4 semester hours
credit for MUSC 115 & 117. A score of 5 will earn 8 semester
hours credit for MUSC 115, 116, 117 & 118.
PHYSICS B: A score of 3 will earn 4 semester hours credit
for PHYS 201 & 201L. A score of 4 or 5 will earn 8 semester
hours credit for PHYS 201, 201L, 202, and 202L.
PHYSICS C, Part I, MECHANICS: A score of 3 will earn 4
semester hours credit for PHYS 201 & 201L. A score of 4 or 5
(with exemption from MATH 141) will earn 4 semester hours
credit for PHYS 211 & 211L.
PHYSICS C, Part II, ELECTRICITY & MAGNETISM: A score of 3
will earn 4 semester hours credit for PHYS 202 & 202L. A
score of 4 or 5 (with exemption from MATH 141) will earn 4
semester hours credit for PHYS 212 & 212L.
PSYCHOLOGY: A score of 3 and above will earn 3 semester
hours for PSYC 101.
SPANISH LANGUAGE or SPANISH LITERATURE: A score of 3 on
either exam will earn 4 semester hours credit for SPAN 121.
If a score of 3 or better is received on both exams, 7
semester hours of credit will be earned for SPAN 121 & 122.
A score of 4 or 5 on either or both exams will earn 7
semester hours of credit for SPAN 121 & 122. Students
receiving a score of 1 or 2 must take the University of
South Carolina placement test.
STATISTICS:
A score of 3 or
better
will earn 3 semester hours of credit for STAT 201

HOW TO OBTAIN SCORES: |
If your AP scores were not
sent to the University of South Carolina at the time
of testing, contact AP Services by mail: PO Box

The cost of additional score reports is $15.00 per
report, or $25.00 after 4 years (prices are subject
to change). Enclose a check or money order made
payable to "AP Exams" or a credit card number and
expiration date. Include the following information:
STUDENT'S FULL NAME, HOME ADDRESS, GENDER, DATE OF
BIRTH, AP NUMBER(S), SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, and
NAME(S) AND YEAR(S) OF THE EXAM(S).
Indicate that your scores are to be sent to the
University of South Carolina (institution code
5818), Office of the Registrar, Columbia, SC 29208.

Once your scores have been received by the Registrar
AND you have officially enrolled in the University
of South Carolina, the appropriate paperwork will be
prepared to ensure that you receive the credit on
your transcript. Your credit should appear on the
current semester's grade report.
