2010 Summer School I classes begin May 31 (through June 29)
2010 Summer School II classes begin July 6 (through August 4)
Summer School Orientation May 28, 2010

Summer School Orientation is for transfer students who are entering for the first time in Summer School I or II. This abbreviated session takes place from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m. and allows you to meet with an advisor, register for Summer and Fall classes, and learn general information about the University that will be helpful to you as a transfer student.

Please note, Parent Orientation is NOT offered during Summer School Orientation.

Students accepted for Summer School II may also register to attend any of the Summer Orientation dates as appropriate to their major or program.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

Sign up for Orientation. There is a registration fee of $40 for Summer School Orientation. This fee includes all program materials and the services of the Student Orientation Leaders, and also helps defray the cost of facilities. You can sign up and pay for Orientation using either of the following methods:

  1. Reserve your spot at Orientation online using VIP and a credit or debit card (*recommended*). Find instructions for using VIP here.
  2. Complete and mail in the Orientation Date Request form with a check or money order payable to "USC Orientation." Credit cards are not accepted by mail.

If you sign up online, you will receive an automatic confirmation that you should print for your records. If you use the paper form, you will receive a confirmation notice by mail with the United States Postal Service. Whatever method you choose, make sure to include your e-mail so you can receive any follow up messages or reminders. Reservations cannot be taken over the phone since full payment must accompany your request.

Only admitted students should attend Summer School Orientation; friends or siblings who are current or even prospective students will not be permitted accompany students through Orientation.

Pre-registration is strongly recommended. Once the online registration period has passed, credit/debit cards may NOT be used to pay Orientation fees; "walk-in" registrants must pay a $10 late fee in addition to the $40 registration fee.

Prior to attending Orientation:

To ensure your Orientation goes as smoothly as possible and to avoid any registration holds, please take care to submit any records or documentation in a timely manner. This may include, but is not limited to

You should also establish your Student PIN, VIP password, and Network Username password. These are the three keys to accessing all facets of the University of South Carolina’s intranet (including VIP, Blackboard, and student e-mail).

If you require special physical arrangements to participate in orientation, please call the Office of Disability Services at 803-777-6742 or notify the Orientation Office in writing. Although Orientation does not include a full campus tour, a moderate amount of walking is done throughout the day to travel from point to point on campus.

Placement testing

Unless you have the appropriate AP scores and/or college-level credit, new students are required to take placement tests in mathematics and foreign language. For further information, refer to http://orientation.sc.edu/pt.htm.
